Free Agency Frenzy – DEs
Spread the love

We are focusing on the defensive ends today. There are many great DEs in this year’s Free Agency, and there are many teams looking to improve their pass rush and take them over the top. Let’s see who goes where.

Top 3 Defensive Ends

Muhammad Wilkerson

Wilkerson has been a staple to this New York Jets defensive line. He knows how to get to the QB and cause havoc. In 2015, Wilkerson set a personal high in sacks with 12.5. Teams are salivating at the chance to lock up the five year veteran, but sources have reported Wilkerson will be tagged by the Jets for the 2016 season.

Jason Pierre-Paul

JPP missed eight games in 2015, but came back with a vengeance. Pierre-Paul ended with only one sack, but that’s not the whole story. According to BigBlueInteractive.com, only eight defensive linemen had more QB hurries than JPP. To put this stat into better perspective, JJ Watt had 26 hurries on over 1,000 snaps, JPP had 24 hurries on 502 snaps. Pierre-Paul may test the market, but he will quickly learn a team isn’t going to give him the type of money he thinks he deserves. Look for him to come back to reality and stay at home.

2016 Team – New York Giants (1 year, $7million, incentive heavy)

Olivier Vernon

After signing Suh last offseason, Miami thought their biggest contributors would be he and Cameron Wake. Oliver stepped up and in the absence of Wake due to injury. In the last three seasons, Vernon has tallied 25.5 sacks and a relentless amount of hurries. Miami is trying to restructure Suh’s deal so that they can have money to sign Vernon, but the market for him is going to be hot. If it comes to a bidding war, which it will, Miami will lose this battle.

2016 Team – Oakland Raiders (5 year, $51million)
