For weeks the members of IB Sports have clamored for a mock draft. Finally I gave in here are the results. If you’re Marcus Mariota, you hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. In our draft QB needy teams like the Jets and Redskins passed on the Oregon QB. Mariota wasn’t picked until the 12th slot by the Cleveland Browns.

With the First pick Tampa Bay took Jameis Winston. No surprise there. They needed a signal caller and the got the best one in the draft. With the second pick most thought the Titans would take Mariota but were shocked when they took Leonard Williams. After the pick was in Coach Whisenhunt came onto the broadcast and said they will ride with Zach Mettenberger this season. The next few picks fell into place with the Jags taking Fowler Jr, the Raiders taking wide reciever Amari Cooper out of Alabama. At 5 the Redskins took Vic Beasley. They were targerting Fowler but he was not there so they took Beasley….At 6 the New York Jets made a pick which confused some people, but it was solid. We all had Mariota pegged here after being passed ocver by the Titans but again he was looked past, and the Jets picked La’el Collins. At 8 the Falcons took Shane Ray who should fit in well in new head coach Dan Quinn. Finally with the 12th pick the Cleveland Browns took Oregon QB Marcus Mariota. it is expected that the Browns are actively shopping Johnny Manziel.
The Houston Texans went out on a limb and took by far the most controversial player in the draft Dorial Green-Beckham. He has everything you could ask for on the field with his size/speed but he has character issues and has been caught twice with marijuana. The Texans had no choice but to pick a Wr with the release of Andre Johnson. The San Diego Chargers selected Todd Gurley with the 17th pick. We will have to see how he rebounds from his ACL surgery but the young man is a special player who will fit in nicely.
Two studs were taken back to back with the Bengals taking Randy Gregory and the Steelers taking Marcus Peters. Both guys come with character concerns. Peters was kicked off the Huskis football team in November and Gregory was popped with testing positive for marijuana at the combine. Gregory plays with great bend and change of direction. But the knock on him is his size. Can he gain some weight? He has been compare to Dion Jordon coming out of Oregon… Time will tell how he plays this season. The Cardinals took Melvin Gordon with probably the steal of the first round. he translates very well to the pro game. He needs to become a better blocker and pass catcher.
At 27 the Cowboys selected Tevin Coleman out of Indiana. Mel Kiper Jr went balastic when this pick was announced…. He was quoted say “Jerry Jones has had some very good drafts recently but he seems to be resorting back to his oldself. He has to give Rod Marinelli some guys to play for him”.
With the 28th pick the the denver broncos got the best interior lineman in the draft in Danny Shelton. They really needed a run stopper to take the place of the departed Terrance Knighton and they got it with Shelton. All in all the 1st round of the draft was as we expected with a few surprises.
